Baseball Recap: Harker Has No Trouble Against Gunderson

Harker was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Gunderson on Saturday. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Grizzlies. Considering the Eagles have won three contests by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Shaurya Jain made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Harker is undefeated when Jain allows one or fewer hits, but 1-4 otherwise. Jain was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Mason Brooks was incredible, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Austin Zhao, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Harker always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Harker has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Gunderson, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Harker will welcome South San Francisco at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Gunderson, they will host Independence at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Grizzlies are facing the 76ers at the right time seeing as the 76ers are stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
