The Valley Vikings will head out on the road to challenge the Fort Lupton Bluedevils at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Valley has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Fort Lupton will arrive with three straight wins.
On Saturday, Valley was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 33-27 to Weld Central.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kendyll Mayhugh, who scored nine points along with four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Brianna Orona, who scored four points.
In what's become a running theme this season, Fort Lupton gave their fans yet another huge win on Thursday. They blew past The Pinnacle 54-26 at home.
It was another big night for Marely Gomez, who almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Daniella Aviles was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five steals.
Valley has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. As for Fort Lupton, their victory bumped their record up to 9-11.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Valley have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Fort Lupton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Valley strolled past Fort Lupton when the teams last played back in December of 2023 by a score of 35-19. Will Valley repeat their success, or does Fort Lupton have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
