After a string of three wins, the Sayre Sabres's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of South Philadelphia by a score of 45-42.
Several Sabres players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brionn Veal-Coston, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 15 rebounds. That was a full 61.9% of Sayre's points, marking the ninth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Mischa Ferguson-Bell was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with seven assists and three steals.
South Philadelphia was led to victory by India Brooks and Halimah Blackwell. Brooks scored 13 points, while Blackwell scored 21 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Blackwell has scored all season.
Sayre's defeat dropped their record down to 8-3. As for South Philadelphia, they pushed their record up to 8-2 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Sayre does not have any more games scheduled as of now. South Philadelphia will head out on the road to challenge the KENSINGTON TIGER at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
