Spanish Springs is 1-9 against Bishop Manogue since November of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Cougars will square off against the Miners at 7:00 p.m. Spanish Springs knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past eight matchups -- so hopefully Bishop Manogue likes a good challenge.
Spanish Springs barely beat Douglas the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Tigers 42-0. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Spanish Springs to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tyson McNeil, who threw for 287 yards and four TDs while completing 75.8% of his passes. McNeil is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for four or more in each of the last six games he's played. Cooper Milligan handled things on the ground, rushing for 117 yards and a rushing touchdown.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Spanish Springs proved: they limited Douglas to a paltry 2.6 yards per carry. The Cougars' run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 4.74 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 7.47 on average over their last five games.
Meanwhile, Bishop Manogue faced Reed in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Miners snuck past the Raiders with a 52-48 victory. The Miners' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Bishop Manogue's win came from a few key players Spanish Springs will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Brandon Mann, who threw for 340 yards and three touchdowns while completing 84% of his passes, and also punched in one score on the ground. He is becoming a predictor of Bishop Manogue's success: when he posts at least 250 passing yards the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Nate Simmons also helped out as he racked up 132 receiving yards.
Spanish Springs' record now sits at 8-0. As for Bishop Manogue, their record is now 5-3.
Friday's contest will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: McNeil and Mann. McNeil just won't slow down this season and has thrown 33 touchdowns (and and only 4 picks) while averaging 265 passing yards per game. Mann has been a dominant force too and has thrown 21 touchdowns (and and only 2 picks) while averaging 220.1 passing yards per game.
Spanish Springs might still be hurting after the 28-7 loss they got from Bishop Manogue when the teams last played back in September of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
