The Yucaipa Thunderbirds will take on the Redlands East Valley Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Yucaipa 3.7, Redlands East Valley 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Yucaipa is headed into the contest having just posted their closest win since March 29th on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Beaumont 8-6. The Thunderbirds haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Zach Scribner and Blake McGilvary dominated on the mound. Scribner struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk), while McGilvary pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those eight strikeouts gave Scribner a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Evan Heaton and Connor White did most of the damage at the plate: Heaton went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while White went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Those three hits gave White a new career-high. Jason Franco was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Redlands East Valley had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Cowboys with a sharp 10-1 victory.
Joseph Prosper looked comfortable as he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Alan Gibbons was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs and one triple. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Griffin Cunningham, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Redlands East Valley pushed their record up to 14-8 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Yucaipa, their win bumped their record up to 14-7.
Yucaipa skirted past Redlands East Valley 1-0 when the teams last played back in March. Do the Thunderbirds have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
