The Mojave Mustangs will challenge the Palmdale Academy Charter School Jaguars at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mojave has given up an average of 13.3 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Thursday just wasn't the day for Mojave's offense. They lost 19-0 to Lone Pine last Thursday. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Mustangs' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Palmdale Academy Charter School). Everything went their way against Victor Valley Christian on Thursday as they made off with a 21-2 win. With that victory, the Jaguars brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Alessio Ruiz made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Ruiz was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Derek Martinez looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Isaac Torres was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Those RBI were his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Luis Ponce, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Palmdale Academy Charter School kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 11.
Palmdale Academy Charter School's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-10. As for Mojave, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 2-5.
