Given Highland Tech's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 255th, while Cherryville is ranked 543rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Highland Tech to victory, but perhaps none more so than Madeline Letts, who scored 15 points. That's the first time this season that Letts scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Addie McCraw, who scored 14 points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Highland Tech and bumps their season record up to 11-3. As for Cherryville, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Highland Tech will square off against Bessemer City at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Bessemer City is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games. As for Cherryville, they will head out on the road to take on NCSSM: Morganton at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. NCSSM: Morganton has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 6.
