The Hancock Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Argo Argonauts at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
Hancock is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight games dating back to last season on Thursday. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Proviso West. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Eagles have suffered since April 4, 2025.
Robert Morales and Ryan Ostrowski stepped up to the plate in a big way. Morales went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run, while Ostrowski went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Argo took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Thursday. Everything went their way against Hubbard as they made off with a 17-1 win. The Argonauts not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 3, 2025 (when they won 16-0).
Scott Forston made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Argo let Brennan Mackessy and Matthew Mateyack run wild. Mackessy went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles, while Mateyack got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave Mackessy a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Armani Abeja, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Argo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hubbard only posted an OBP of .294.
Hancock suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Argo when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
