Baseball Game Preview: West Valley Mustangs vs. La Sierra Eagles

West Valley is 0-5 against La Sierra since April of 2018 but things could change on Wednesday. The West Valley Mustangs will be playing at home against the La Sierra Eagles at 3:30 p.m. La Sierra took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on West Valley, who comes in off a win.

Last Monday, West Valley sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over Nuview Bridge. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won six in a row.

Caleb Trujillo and Caden Bridwell made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Trujillo pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Bridwell tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, Trujillo didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Trujillo went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI, while Bridwell went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Trujillo has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Aiden Juarez was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases. He is becoming a predictor of West Valley's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 1-3 when he doesn't).

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for La Sierra's offense. They lost 8-0 to Tahquitz on Tuesday. The match marked the first time this year in which the Eagles were not able to get on the board.

La Sierra's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for West Valley, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

West Valley came up short against La Sierra in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 5-2. Can West Valley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
