The Panther Valley Panthers entered their tilt with the Pine Grove Cardinals with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Panther Valley came out on top against Pine Grove by a score of 47-35 on Thursday. Given Panther Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 215th, while Pine Grove is ranked 508th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Natalie Vermillion was the offensive standout of the contest as she scored 15 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Maddison Maynard, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds.
Panther Valley's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4. As for Pine Grove, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Panther Valley will face off against Blue Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Pine Grove on the road again on Saturday and play against Williams Valley at 12:00 p.m. on January 20th.
