The Belfast Lions will square off against the Waterville Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Belfast has four straight victories, Waterville has nine straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Belfast came out on top against Winslow on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fourth inning. The Lions put the hurt on the Black Raiders with a sharp 13-2 win. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.
Iven Ingraham made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Belfast is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 4-5 otherwise. Ingraham was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Aidan Howard and Tucker Marden did most of the damage at the plate: Howard went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, while Marden went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those four hits gave Howard a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sam Jewett, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Belfast always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .553 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Waterville fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Nokomis on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 5-4.
Waterville's loss dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Belfast, their victory bumped their record up to 12-5.
Everything went Belfast's way against Waterville in their previous matchup last Wednesday, as Belfast made off with a 12-6 win. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
