Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school basketball. The tradition continues to close out the 2024-25 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Cole Scherer of
Valor Christian (Highlands Ranch) is the 2024-25 Colorado MaxPreps Player of the Year. A repeat selection, the 6-foot-2 senior guard led the Eagles to a 23-5 record and an appearance in the Class 6A state championship game.
For the season, Scherer averaged 26.9 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 2.2 steals per contest. He shot 54.2 percent from the field, 47.0 percent from 3-point range and 83.3 percent from the free throw line.

Scherer piled up over 2,000 points in his prep career, leading Valor Christian to a 49-7 record over the past two seasons with a state title in 2024.
The two-time Colorado Player of the Year signed with Eastern Washington in November.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which is scheduled to be released April 8. Past selections include 2023-24 All-NBA picks Devin Booker (2014), Jalen Brunson (2014, 2015), Anthony Davis (2011), Kevin Durant (2006), Anthony Edwards (2019) and Jayson Tatum (2014, 2015, 2016).
