The Peabody Warhorses had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.5 points), and they went ahead and made it nine on Saturday. They strolled past Silsbee with points to spare, taking the game 59-44. Given Peabody's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked third in Louisiana, while Silsbee is ranked 160th in Texas), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Justin Burns was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds. The matchup was his 16th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Mathews, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.
Despite the loss, Silsbee still got an impressive performance from Jared Harris, who scored 19 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Harris scored a full 43.2% of Silsbee's points, the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Troy Rice was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds.
Peabody is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-2 record this season. As for Silsbee, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-9.
Peabody and Trinity will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Trinity will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. Silsbee's road trip will continue as they head out to face Jasper at 7:30 p.m. on January 9th.
