Pierce extended their losing streak to 12 on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-16 in the process. They lost 23-2 to the Durham Trojans. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bears of the 13-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.
Mikey Acevedo was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
As for Durham, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games.
On Durham's side, Jack Stephens made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Stephens was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Brevan Ring looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Durham let Ely Martinez and Jack Drake run wild. Martinez went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one double, while Drake got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs Drake has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Landon Lynch, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Coming up, Durham will take on Paradise at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bobcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.07 runs per game on average), something the Trojans will no doubt try to take advantage of. Pierce will be paying especially close attention to Durham's game: after Durham faces off against Paradise, they'll take on Pierce again at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
