Brookstone is 8-2 against Shaw since September of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Cougars will challenge the Raiders at 5:00 p.m. Brookstone is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Westfield School hit Brookstone with a seven-run fourth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cougars came up short against the Hornets, falling 10-3. The defeat continues a trend for the Cougars in their meetings with the Hornets: they've now lost nine in a row.
Brookstone saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mary Carter Fort, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Meanwhile, while Shaw put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Jordan. The Raiders blew past the Red Jackets 17-0. Considering the Raiders have won 13 matchups by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Katlyn Moss made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in September of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alexis McClain, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in August. Another player making a difference was Michayla Bledsoe, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI.
Shaw always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .875. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Shaw has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Brookstone, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Brookstone has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .478. However, it's not like Shaw struggles in that department as they've averaged .497. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Brookstone was able to grind out a solid victory over Shaw when the teams last played back in August, winning 10-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
