The Mars Fightin' Planets will head out on the road to face off against the Montour Spartans at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Mars is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Last Thursday, Mars blew past New Castle, posting a 59-32 win at home. Given Mars' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 243rd, while New Castle is ranked 605th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Vita Vargo was her usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Cashdollar, who scored nine points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Montour's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight defeat. They fell just short of Moon Area by a score of 46-43.
Mars now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Montour, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 13 of their last 17 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-15 record this season.
Mars couldn't quite finish off Montour in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 and fell 47-45. Can Mars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
