For the first time in MaxPreps Cup history, a school from Idaho sits in first place.
Rocky Mountain (Meridian) is off to a strong start this fall and the result is a No.1 ranking in the October standings.
Rocky Mountain won state championships in girls golf and girls soccer and finished as runner-up in boys golf and boys soccer. The boys soccer team is ranked No. 20 nationally by MaxPreps while the girls cross country team is ranked No. 17 by DyeStat. Those performances garnered the Grizzlies 739 points to edge
Lone Peak (Highland, Utah) by 14 points for the top spot.
With a number of states not conducting state championships until November, states like Idaho, Utah, Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas got the jump on the rest of the nation by conducting many of their state championships during October. Since the MaxPreps Cup is calculated by awarding points for state championships and runner-up finishes (and placement in national rankings), those athletic programs that were able to capture state titles in October zoomed to the top of the standings.

Lone Peak captured state championships in girls soccer and girls cross country and finished second in boys golf and girls tennis. The girls soccer and girls cross country teams are both ranked No. 6 in the national rankings.
Rocky Mountain and Lone Peak are both nearly 100 points ahead of No. 3
Baylor (Chattanooga, Tenn.), which won a state title in girls soccer and finished second in girls golf and girls volleyball. The Red Raiders are also ranked No. 10 in girls soccer.
MaxPreps will release final fall standings in January. The MaxPreps Cup is a formula that strives to identify the top high school sports programs in the nation with an algorithm that awards points for state titles, runner-up finishes and placement in national rankings.
Teams are listed with their MaxPreps Cup point total.
