Valley hasn't had much luck against Lyons recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Vikings will head out on the road to challenge the Lions at 4:00 p.m. Valley has given up an average of 11.4 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Valley came up short against Brush on Tuesday, falling 14-4.
Valley saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophia Rodriguez, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Lyons waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. Everything went their way against the Tigers as they made off with a 13-3 win. Considering the Lions have won 11 contests by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Gretta Wynja made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in September.
In other batting news, Dahlia Oviatt was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three doubles. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Leora Hagan, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Lyons kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Lyons, their record now sits at 16-5.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Valley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .408. However, it's not like Lyons struggles in that department as they've averaged .358. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Valley suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to Lyons in their previous meeting last Tuesday. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
