This season hasn't been kind to the Sequoyah School Gryphons, who are still winless after their fourth game. They took a 38-23 bruising from Southwestern Academy on Monday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Sequoyah School in their matchups with the Sun: they've now lost three in a row.
Southwestern Academy was led to victory by Michelle Fakrogha and Marifer Durand. Fakrogha scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists, while Durand almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Durand has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Valza Jusufi, who scored four points along with 11 rebounds.
Sequoyah School dropped their record down to 0-4 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 15.0 points per game. As for Southwestern Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-10 record this season.
Sequoyah School won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the EF Academy at 4:30 p.m. on January 30th. E comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last 11 games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. Southwestern Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
