The Upper Perkiomen Indians's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight defeat. They took a 47-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pope John Paul II. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Upper Perkiomen of the 43-41 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January.
When it comes to explaining why Upper Perkiomen lost, one person who can't be blamed is Carly Heiser. Despite the final result, she scored 19 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Heiser has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Elena Fabian, who scored eight points.
Upper Perkiomen's loss was their 20th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 5-17. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.8 points per game. As for Pope John Paul II, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Upper Perkiomen's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on February 1st. Pottstown comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Pope John Paul II, they will head out on the road to square off against the Vikings at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Pennsylvania (Upper Merion Area is ranked 378th, while the are ranked 355th).
