Baseball Recap: Riverside Prep Snags Sixth Win in Last Eight Games

Riverside Prep won against Hesperia Christian last Tuesday with 18 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Silver Knights beat the Patriots by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 18-1. The result was nothing new for the Silver Knights, who have now won eight games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Jacob Villegas looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Victor Herrera was a standout: he scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Trent Bourgeois was another key player, going 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Riverside Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .660. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Riverside Prep has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Hesperia Christian, they now have a losing record of 7-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Riverside Prep will head out to face off against Rancho Cucamonga at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Silver Knights 3, the Cougars 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Hesperia Christian, they will head out on the road to challenge University Prep at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Patriots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Jaguars have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
