Etiwanda is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Monday. They will venture away from home to take on the Damien Spartans at 3:15 p.m. Etiwanda will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
Etiwanda had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt La Jolla Country Day on Thursday. The Eagles' pitcher stepped up to hand the Torreys an 11-0 shutout. The Eagles' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Not much got past Jack Holguin, who gave up just a hit and racked up eight Ks to keep La Jolla Country Day off the board. Holguin also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Etiwanda is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-5-1 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Derick Kim, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles. Those RBI marked the first that he brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Thomas Sanchez, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Etiwanda was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Damien gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with an 8-5 win over Yorba Linda.
Ethan Chavez looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Elius Kelly was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Gino Tarzia, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Etiwanda's record now sits at 5-6-1. As for Damien, their record is now 6-7.
Etiwanda came up short against Damien when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 5-2. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
