The Crestwood Comets fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Hazleton Area Cougars on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 58-51 to the Cougars. While losing is never fun, Crestwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 279th, while Hazleton Area is ranked 14th).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hazleton Area to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kayla Lagowy, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds. Lagowy is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Sophia Benyo was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.
Crestwood bumped their record down to 1-4 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Hazleton Area, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 11-1.
Crestwood will be playing in front of their home fans against Berwick at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Berwick is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. As for Hazleton Area, they will head out on the road to face off against Wilkes-Barre at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.
