Regan Thornhill made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with six RBI, two stolen bases, and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
In other batting news, Morgan Smith was incredible, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lela Laurence, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Pensacola Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .459. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Pensacola Catholic's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-11. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Pensacola, their loss dropped their record down to 2-15.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Pensacola Catholic has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Pensacola struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
