Shaw is 6-1 against Sumter County since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Raiders will welcome the Panthers at 5:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Shaw came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Calvary Christian, falling 11-4. The Raiders haven't had much luck with the Knights recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Shaw saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kingston Long, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Sumter County lost 33-16 to Monroe on Friday.
Jake Dutcher put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Dutcher was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his six plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. He has become a key player for Sumter County: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-2 otherwise.
In other batting news, Nolan Minter made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. He also hit two doubles, marking his first of the season. Wayne Harvey was another key player, getting on base in three of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Sumter County's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Shaw, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 3-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Shaw has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Sumter County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Shaw's way against Sumter County in their previous matchup back in March of 2025, as Shaw made off with a 13-0 win. Will the Raiders repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
