The Classical Academy Caimans will challenge the Bonita Vista Barons at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. Classical Academy's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Bonita Vista's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Classical Academy was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Grossmont on Saturday. Classical Academy was the clear victor by a 12-5 margin over Grossmont. Considering the Caimans' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Classical Academy got a great performance from Adam Hukill as he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. The dominant performance also gave Hukill a new career-high in strikeouts (four).
On the hitting side, Trevor Hoff was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. Another player making a difference was Aidan Suitor, who scored a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Classical Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Bonita Vista didn't have quite enough to beat Torrey Pines on Friday and fell 2-1.
DEMARCO ROJAS was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched.
At the plate, Bonita Vista saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was ADRIAN FIGUEROA, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Classical Academy's win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-4. As for Bonita Vista, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.
Classical Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Bonita Vista in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Does Classical Academy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Bonita Vista turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
