This season hasn't been kind to the Girard Yellowjackets, who are still winless after their tenth game. They had to suffer through a rough 52-24 loss at the hands of Northwestern. While losing is never fun, Girard can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 662nd, while Northwestern is ranked 126th).
Northwestern found their leader in underclassman Makayla Presser-Palmer, who scored 26 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Presser-Palmer has scored at least a third of Northwestern's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Stagl, who scored 12 points.
Girard's defeat was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-10. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 20.0 points per game. As for Northwestern, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Girard will take on Union City at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Northwestern, they will head out on the road to challenge Seneca at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Seneca and Northwestern are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
