The Southwest DeKalb Panthers will venture away from home to take on the Chamblee Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Southwest DeKalb's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Chamblee's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Southwest DeKalb came out on top against North Springs on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run second inning. The Panthers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Spartans an 8-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won ten contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Southwest DeKalb let Bailee Canty and Nyla Denbow run wild. Canty went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Denbow went 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple. Madelyn Flournoy was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Chamblee came up short against Mount Vernon on Saturday and fell 4-1. The Bulldogs haven't had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Chamblee saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madison Jones, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Southwest DeKalb is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Chamblee, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-11.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Southwest DeKalb hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Chamblee struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Southwest DeKalb's way against Chamblee in their previous matchup on September 5th, as Southwest DeKalb made off with an 11-3 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
