Maize South had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Newton Railroaders 37-0. The win continues a trend for the Mavericks in their matchups with the Railroaders: they've now won six in a row.

Maize South's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hayden Nuss, who rushed for 55 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Nuss a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two). Another pass catcher making a difference was Stratton Ebers, who picked up 99 receiving yards and one score.

Maize South didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Newton to a completion percentage of just 12.5%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from four players: Cole Haynes, Karson Daivs, Ayden Peters, and Bray Witcher, who each logged one passes deflected. Maize South wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 68.3%.

Maize South has already played their next game, a 38-35 win against South on the 12th. As for Newton, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 27-18 defeat against Andover Central on the 12th.
