The Island Coast Gators suffered their biggest defeat since December 12, 2023 on Thursday. They were dealt a 68-40 loss at the hands of North Fort Myers. Island Coast has not had much luck with North Fort Myers recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Island Coast's loss came despite strong showings from Roanin Solis-Valdez and SirJoshua Anderson. Solis-Valdez scored nine points, while Anderson scored eight points. Terrell Hill was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
North Fort Myers found their leader in underclassman Isaiah Newson, who scored 26 points along with two steals. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Newson has scored at least a third of North Fort Myers' points. Another player making a difference was Alberto Riviera, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
Island Coast's loss dropped their record down to 9-11. As for North Fort Myers, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-11.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Island Coast won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Naples Classical at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. Naples Classical knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 11 matches -- so hopefully Island Coast likes a good challenge. As for North Fort Myers, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Cypress Lake at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. Cypress Lake is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.
