The Monte Vista Christian Mustangs will face off against the Everett Alvarez Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Monte Vista Christian is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
Monte Vista Christian came out on top against Rancho San Juan on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fifth inning. The Mustangs were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Trailblazers. Considering the Mustangs have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Chris Bautista spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Brady Cortez was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Parker Brown, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Meanwhile, Everett Alvarez had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over North Monterey County on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since February 28th.
Everett Alvarez also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and he was also dialed-in: Ivan Chavez gave up three earned (and one unearned) runs on 13 hits. Chavez also tossed no walks, which is notable because the Eagles are 4-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-10 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Cody Victoriano, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Monte Vista Christian pushed their record up to 18-4 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Everett Alvarez, their win bumped their record up to 9-12.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Monte Vista Christian has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .471. However, it's not like Everett Alvarez struggles in that department as they've averaged .437. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Monte Vista Christian took their victory against Everett Alvarez in their previous matchup back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 11-1 score. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
