The Canutillo Eagles had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 36.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They came out on top against Chapin by a score of 21-14. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Canutillo also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2022.
Among those leading the charge was Jeremiah Knox, who rushed for 26 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 152 yards and a touchdown while completing 80% of his passes. Eduardo Carrillo did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 84 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Despite the defeat, Chapin had strong showings from Daveon Singleton, who rushed for 145 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.5 yards per carry, and Carey Wade, who rushed for 160 yards on only 12 carries. Wade's longest rush was for an incredible 90 yards.
Canutillo's victory was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-7 Burges and 4-5 Parkland (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 39.8% over those games). As for Chapin, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Canutillo will take on Jefferson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Jefferson is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Chapin, they will be playing in front of their home fans against El Paso at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. El Paso will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each match than the last.
