Early County has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Schley County Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
With a playoff game on the line, Early County rose to the challenge on Friday. They walked away with a 43-34 victory over the Bulldogs.
Tycavion Stovall was his usual excellent self, rushing for 314 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.8 yards per carry. Stovall has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last four times he's played.
Meanwhile, Schley County put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They beat Lincoln County by the very same score they won with last week: 49-23. Considering Schley County has won 11 games by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Schley County can attribute much of their success to Jay Kanazawa, who threw for 335 yards and two touchdowns while completing 90.9% of his passes, and Zayden Walker, who rushed for 77 yards and three touchdowns. Carson Westbrook also helped out with an impressive 118 receiving yards.
Early County's victory bumped their record up to 8-4. As for Schley County, they have yet to lose a matchup at home this season, leaving them with a 12-0 record.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Early County has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 263.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Schley County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 170.4 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Early County was dealt a bruising 30-0 loss at the hands of Schley County in their previous meeting back in September. Can Early County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
