San Marcos has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Ventura Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. San Marcos will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 216th, while Ventura is ranked 44th).
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 68-38, which was the final score in San Marcos' tilt against Oxnard on Tuesday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points San Marcos has scored all season.
Ventura has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 25 points or more this season. They blew past Pacifica, posting a 83-7 win at home. Ventura's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Skyler Knight was her usual excellent self, scoring 26 points along with four steals. Another player making a difference was Kailee Staniland, who scored 17 points along with six assists and four steals.
San Marcos' loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Ventura, they pushed their record up to 7-2 with that victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.
San Marcos came up short against Ventura when the teams last played back in January, falling 53-40. Can San Marcos avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
