The St. Joseph Academy Crusaders suffered their biggest defeat since December 6, 2023 on Tuesday. They were the victim of a rough 62-38 defeat at the hands of Bishop. While losing is never fun, St. Joseph Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 552nd, while Bishop's is ranked 153rd).
St. Joseph Academy's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Luciana Aguilar, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, and Pamela Torres who scored 13 points along with six rebounds. That was a full 47.4% of St. Joseph Academy's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Bishop's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Moana Peterson, who scored 23 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Peterson has scored all season. Ayla Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 22 points.
St. Joseph Academy bumped their record down to 10-12 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Bishop's, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Joseph Academy will take on Classical Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Classical Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Bishop's, they will be playing at home against La Jolla Country Day at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. La Jolla Country Day is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 60 points per game.
