Orland is a perfect 4-0 against Live Oak since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Trojans will welcome the Lions at 5:00 p.m. The last four games Orland has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Friday, Orland didn't have quite enough to beat Gridley and fell 4-3. The defeat continues a trend for the Trojans in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost six in a row.
Orland saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Schager, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Live Oak duked it out with Corning on Friday. The Lions were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Cardinals. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.
Farron Gomez and Bradley Perigo made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Gomez struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Perigo tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Live Oak is 8-4 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 3-6 otherwise. At the plate, Gomez got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI, while Perigo went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. That's the most hits Perigo has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Luis Carrasco was excellent, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Lee, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Live Oak's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-10. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Orland, their loss dropped their record down to 11-13.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Orland has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Live Oak struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Orland's way against Live Oak when the teams last played back in March of 2020, as Orland made off with a 10-0 win. Do the Trojans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
