The West Campus Warriors will challenge the Sheldon Huskies at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. West Campus knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Sheldon likes a good challenge.
West Campus barely beat Natomas the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. West Campus never let Natomas get on the board and left with a 28-0 win on Tuesday. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Nighthawks recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Jackson Start

02/28/25 vs San Juan | 5 |
04/30/24 vs Grant | 4 |
02/18/25 @ Antelope | 2 |
03/14/24 vs Monterey Trail | 2 |
Jaymin Wise and Jackson Start made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Wise tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Start struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. At the plate, Wise got on base in all three of his plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one double, while Start scored three runs while going 1-for-2. Wise is becoming a predictor of West Campus' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-5 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Riley Gilson, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jarrett Arias, who scored four runs while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances.
West Campus always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .691. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Sheldon didn't have quite enough to beat Destiny Christian Academy on Friday and fell 7-5. The Huskies have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Freddy Saldana was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Saldana was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.
In other batting news, Justin Solari made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-4. Those hits were his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Javier Avalos, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
West Campus pushed their record up to 6-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Sheldon, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. West Campus has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Sheldon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
West Campus might still be hurting after the 12-0 loss they got from Sheldon in their previous meeting back in February. Will West Campus have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
