After a string of six wins, the Hughesville Spartans's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell 49-36 to Loyalsock Township. If Hughesville hoped to take revenge for the 50-42 defeat against they when the teams met, then they were left disappointed.
Maddie Smith and Ava Snyder certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Smith scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, while Snyder scored nine points along with four steals. Snyder is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Vivian Draper, who scored four points along with five rebounds.
Hughesville's loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-3. As for Loyalsock Township, they pushed their record up to 16-2 with that win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season.
Hughesville will take on Bloomsburg at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Bloomsburg will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 255th, while Hughesville is ranked 81st). As for Loyalsock Township, they will head out on the road to square off against Mount Carmel at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mount Carmel is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
