Baseball Game Preview: Briarwood Academy Buccaneers vs. Edmund Burke Academy Spartans

Briarwood Academy is 2-8 against Edmund Burke Academy since March of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Buccaneers will look to defend their home field against the Spartans at 4:30 p.m. Briarwood Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.

Briarwood Academy fell victim to Glascock County and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers. Considering the last time the Buccaneers couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.

Blake Tench put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases.

Meanwhile, Edmund Burke Academy got themselves on the board against Augusta Prep Day on Thursday, but Augusta Prep Day never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Cavaliers with a sharp 17-0 win. Considering the Spartans have won 11 contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Edmund Burke Academy pushed their record up to 12-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Briarwood Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-10.

Briarwood Academy might still be hurting after the 10-1 loss they got from Edmund Burke Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Buccaneers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
