The Colfax Falcons will head out on the road to square off against the Oakmont Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Colfax's hitters haven't had much luck over their past three contests, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times Colfax and Wheatland had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Falcons came up short against the Pirates on Friday, falling 14-1.
Colfax saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Blake Arteaga, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Oakmont, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over Lincoln on Friday.
Brayden Saucedo spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Oakmont got a big performance out of Matthew Aguas, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. What's more, Aguas posted two hits, the most he's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Peyton Oliver, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Oakmont was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Oakmont is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-14 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Colfax, their loss dropped their record down to 10-12-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Colfax has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Oakmont struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Colfax might still be hurting after the 6-0 defeat they got from Oakmont when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
