Cardinal Newman's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Saturday: Valley Christian hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. Valley Christian never let Wilcox get on the board and left with a 2-0 win on Tuesday.
Rohan Kasanagottu looked comfortable as he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Valley Christian saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Colton Hadfield, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Caleb Najar also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Cardinal Newman, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They blew past Ukiah 12-1 on Thursday. The Cardinals haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Jack Pezzolo made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Matai Fa'agata, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3. Jacob Wood was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
Cardinal Newman always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Valley Christian pushed their record up to 6-0 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Cardinal Newman, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Everything went Valley Christian's way against Cardinal Newman when the teams last played back in February of 2024, as Valley Christian made off with an 8-2 win.
