The Soquel Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They took a 47-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of Aptos. While losing is never fun, Soquel can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1111th, while Aptos is ranked 451st).
Aptos found their leader in underclassman Gabby Wickham, who scored 20 points along with four steals. The game was Wickham's 13th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Berkeley Ashby, who scored five points along with 14 rebounds and five steals.
Soquel's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Aptos, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-5.
Soquel will be playing in front of their home fans against Harbor at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Harbor comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 23 points in their last six games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Aptos, they will head out on the road to face off against Santa Cruz at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Santa Cruz is on a three-game streak of home wins, Aptos a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
