The San Lorenzo Grizzlies will challenge the San Leandro Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (San Lorenzo 2.8, San Leandro 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Last Friday, San Lorenzo got the win against San Jose by a conclusive 13-3. The result was nothing new for the Grizzlies, who have now won 11 matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Rogelio Hernandez and Alexys Casillas did most of the damage at the plate: Hernandez scored three runs and stole five bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Casillas scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3. Those four stolen bases gave Casillas a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ulises Jimenez Santiago, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
San Lorenzo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .393 or higher in eight consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, San Leandro was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They came up short against Castro Valley, falling 8-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Pirates have suffered since March 5, 2024.
San Leandro saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ky Lenn Smith, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
San Lorenzo's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for San Leandro, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.
San Lorenzo's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's game. The Grizzlies have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for San Leandro, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will San Lorenzo continue to outrun the ball?
San Lorenzo suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to San Leandro in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Grizzlies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
