Baseball Recap: Smithfield Has No Trouble Against Mt. Hope

Smithfield came out on top against Mt. Hope on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run first inning. The Sentinels put the hurt on the Huskies with a sharp 11-1 win. The Sentinels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Smithfield got a great performance from Luca Simonelli as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.

At the plate, Luke Dwyer was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tucker Byrnes, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

Smithfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mt. Hope only posted an OBP of .111.

The victory got Smithfield back to even at 4-4. As for Mt. Hope, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.
