The high school football season in Vermont came to an end over the weekend with champions crowned in three divisions.
Champlain Valley Union (Hinesburg) was among the winners, using a late defensive stand to knock off
Middlebury in the Division I title game 24-19. That victory helped propel the RedHawks to the No. 1 spot in the final state MaxPreps Top 25.
Champlain Valley Union (10-1) averaged nearly 40 points per game on the season and went unbeaten against in-state competition. The title was the first in school history.
The only unbeaten team in the final rankings is Division III champion
Windsor, who beat
Bellows Free Academy/Lamoille (Fairfax) 35-21 in the title contest. The Yellowjackets outscored opponents by an average of 28 points per game this season with only one contest decided by less than 14 points.
