Joshua Hernandez-Mercedes made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Felino Martinez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Victor Gutierrez, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI and one double.
Abraham Lincoln was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Franklin Towne suffered their biggest loss since April 9th on Saturday. They lost 11-1 to Father Judge. The defeat continues a trend for the Warriors in their meetings with the Crusaders: they've now lost four in a row.
Robert Brant made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run.
Abraham Lincoln is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games. As for Franklin Towne, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Abraham Lincoln hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .437. However, it's not like Franklin Towne struggles in that department as they've averaged .359. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Abraham Lincoln suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Franklin Towne in their previous meeting back in May of 2022. Can the Railsplitters avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
