The New Roads Jaguars will venture away from home to take on the Wiseburn- Da Vinci Wolves at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. New Roads will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
While New Roads' victory against Lennox Academy wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Jaguars skirted past the Panthers 3-1.
Elio LaPorta was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Wiseburn- Da Vinci got the win against Shalhevet on Monday by a conclusive 13-1. The result was nothing new for the Wolves, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Nathaniel Buendia looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Peyton Tate and Adan Barbosa did most of the damage at the plate: Tate got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs, while Barbosa fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3. Tate is becoming a predictor of Wiseburn- Da Vinci's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 9-1 (and 8-9 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Beckett Miller, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
Wiseburn- Da Vinci always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Shalhevet only posted an OBP of .318.
New Roads' win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-10. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games. As for Wiseburn- Da Vinci, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-10.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. New Roads has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Wiseburn- Da Vinci struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
New Roads suffered a grim 8-2 defeat to Wiseburn- Da Vinci in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Jaguars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
