Softball Recap: Castle View Takes a Loss

Castle View was the 17-5 winner over Pine Creek when they last played one another back in September of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Sabercats came up short against the Eagles on Wednesday, falling 18-11. Even though they lost, the Sabercats' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.8 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Jaymee Vesque led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Holland, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

This is the second loss in a row for Castle View and nudges their season record down to 1-5. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Pine Creek, their win bumped their record up to 7-0.

Looking ahead, Castle View will head out to challenge Dakota Ridge at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.75 runs per game on average), something the Sabercats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Pine Creek, they will host Erie at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Tigers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
