The Canyon Cowboys's game on Thursday was all tied up 29-29 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 59-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Foothill. While losing is never fun, Canyon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 326th, while Foothill is ranked 110th).
Several Cowboys players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Josie Regez, who scored 17 points. Regez scored a full 32.1% of Canyon's points, the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Isabella Escribano was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Lexi Peters was her usual excellent self, scoring 32 points along with six rebounds and three steals for Foothill. The match was Peters' 13th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kalea Thomas, who scored six points along with ten rebounds and three steals.
Canyon has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Foothill, their win bumped their record up to 10-3.
Canyon will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Saint Mary's at 3:00 p.m. on December 29, 2023. Foothill won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Atwater at 6:00 p.m. on December 29, 2023. One thing working in Atwater's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 11 contests.
