The Reed-Custer Comets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell 51-39 to Coal City. While losing is never fun, Reed-Custer can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 433rd, while Coal City is ranked 132nd).
When it comes to explaining why Reed-Custer lost, one person who can't be blamed is Natalie Flores. Despite the final result, she scored nine points.
Reed-Custer has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-9 record this season. As for Coal City, they pushed their record up to 13-2 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Reed-Custer will square off against Lisle at 6:45 p.m. on Monday. Coal City's road trip will continue as they head out to face Manteno at 5:30 p.m. on January 8th.
